I finished Elizabeth Gilbert’s latest novel, The Signature of All Things, over the weekend. The jury is still out, but it might just be my new favorite book. A good portion of the story is set in 19th-century Tahiti, and in between chapters I surfed around Tahiti’s tourism website, fascinated by the South Pacific island chain. Gilbert’s imagery was so vivid, I couldn’t help but want to know more. This got me thinking about other books I’ve read that have piqued my curiosity about certain places. Some of them—Africa, Charleston, Italy—I’ve traveled to. Others are still on my wish list. What books have left you with a serious case of wanderlust?
